Tottenham Hotspur have been given an extension until April 30 to decide whether they will play their home fixtures at Wembley Stadium next season, the Premier League club said.

Tottenham’s current stadium is to be demolished at the end of the season as a new one is being constructed but chairman Daniel Levy said the club might stay at White Hart Lane for longer than expected.

Spurs have reached agreement with Wembley National Stadium Limited (WNSL) for an extension.

“Our intention remains to spend next season at the national stadium before returning to our new stadium in Tottenham for the 2018/19 season,” the club said.

Pep optimistic on Gabriel Jesus

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is expecting Gabriel Jesus to make a sooner-than-expected return after the young Brazil striker broke a bone in his foot during the Premier League win over Bournemouth last month.

Jesus, 19, who was initially expected to miss the rest of the season, made an immediate impact after his transfer from Palmeiras in January, scoring three goals in five games and forming a promising understanding with wingers Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.

“The crutches are gone. He has started to work and hopefully he will start to run and then help us in the last games of the season,” Guardiola told reporters.

Lukaku, Howe win monthly awards

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has been named Premier League player of the month for March, while Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe picked up his first manager of the month award.

Lukaku leads the race for the golden boot with 21 goals. The Belgian forward scored four in March, netting in a 3-2 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur, scoring and assisting in a 3-0 home win over West Brom and notching a brace in a 4-0 triumph over Hull City.

Under Howe’s stewardship, Bournemouth were unbeaten in March as they won two and drew one of their three matches to move up to 11th in the table and nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Viola could turn to Di Francesco

Fiorentina are considering to replace coach Paulo Sousa with Eusebio Di Francesco, club director Giancarlo Antognoni said.

Sousa’s contract at Fiorentina expires at the end of the season and it looks unlikely that he will be offered a new deal.

“Sousa is doing well despite recent difficulties but we’ll see what happens,” Antognoni said.

“At presents there are many clubs who are showing an interest in Di Francesco and Fiorentina may well be one of them.”

Mata undergoes groin surgery

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is in danger of missing the rest of the season after undergoing groin surgery.

The 28-year-old’s injury will prove a sizeable setback to boss Jose Mourinho, with United still chasing the Europa League title and battling for a top-four Premier League berth.

Mata’s blow is the latest concern for United, following quickly on from Mourinho confirming “long-term injuries” to defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Bauza facing Argentina sack

The executive committee of the Argentina football federation (AFA) has decided to relieve national team manager Edgardo Bauza of his coaching duties, sources have told ESPN FC’s Hernan Castillo in Argentina.

AFA’s leadership, in their first meeting since being elected along with new president Claudio Tapia last week, had been expected to vote unanimously on Friday to sack Bauza, with Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli reportedly being AFA’s first choice to replace him. But an official announcement has been delayed.

The AFA is working on negotiating financial details with Bauza, whose contract had been set to run until 2018 if Argentina qualifies for the World Cup.
