Real Madrid midfielder Case-miro has suffered a fracture in his left leg. The Brazil international was substituted in Real’s 2-0 win over Espanyol on Sunday and played no part in the midweek1-1 draw with Villarreal.

“Following tests carried out on Casemiro, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to the central third of his left fibula. His recovery will continue to be assessed,” the club said.

The 24-year-old, who has made five appearances in all competitions for Real this season, will miss Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Venezuela next month.

‘Gabigol’ geared up for Inter charge

Gabriel Barbosa is determined to help the “biggest team in Italy” mount an overdue challenge for the Serie A title after joining an Inter side seemingly on the up and up.

The Brazilian forward – commonly known as ‘Gabigol’ – joined Inter in the summer des-pite reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

His unveiling at San Siro comes at a time when the Nerazzurri, who have not clinched the Scudetto since 2010, are flying high in the league table.

“I’ll give everything I’ve got,” Gabriel said.

“I can play in several positions, so it’s up to the coach. There were offers from all over the world but I’ve joined the biggest team in Italy and I’m delighted with my decision.”

West Ham defender Masuaku sidelined

West Ham have been dealt another injury blow with the news that defender Arthur Masuaku will be out for at least six weeks.

The 22-year-old Frenchman was brought in for £6 million from Olympiakos in August as cover for injured left-back Aaron Cresswell

But Masuaku has now joined Cresswell on the casualty list after damaging knee ligaments during the League Cup win over Accrington on Wednesday night.

For manager Slaven Bilic it is another problem to solve in a defence which conceded eight goals in their previous two Premier League outings.

Miller arrested

Rangers striker Kenny Miller has been arrested in connection with an alleged brawl in a restaurant hours after an Old Firm match.

The incident took place on September 10 in Bothwell following Rangers’ 5-1 defeat to Glasgow derby rivals Celtic.

The 36-year-old former Scotland striker is reported to have been at the restaurant with his wife.

A Police Scotland spokesman, said: “A 36-year-old man has been arrested and is subject to a report to the procurator fiscal in connection with this incident.”

O’Neill and Keane extend contracts

Ireland manager Martin O’Neill and his assistant Roy Keane have signed new two-year contracts that will take them through to the 2018 World Cup.

O’Neill was appointed to the job in November 2013 and guided Ireland to this year’s European Championship finals where they lost 2-1 to hosts France in the round of 16.

The former Sunderland and Aston Villa manager has the task of helping Ireland end a 16-year absence from the World Cup finals.

“My own personal view, and I’ve proved it I think, is that Ireland’s best chance of qualification for the World Cup in Russia lies with myself and Roy Keane.

“I want to be around, I want to do it, want to try and qualify,” O’Neill said.

Walker commits to new Spurs deal

Tottenham defender Kyle Walker has signed a new five-year contract, the club have announced.

Walker joined Spurs in 2009 and has since made 155 league appearances for the London side. His new deal will run until 2021.

The 26-year-old becomes the seventh Spurs player to extend his commitment this month, following Christian Eriksen, Harry Winks, Tom Carroll, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Dele Alli.

“It’s a great honour,” Walker told Spurs TV.

“I want to say a big thank you to the chairman and the manager for putting their faith in me.

“It’s been a long stay here but a very enjoyable one. I’m fully enjoying it. It’s like my second home now and I’m happy to commit my future to Tottenham.”

Old Firm rivals to clash in cup SFs

Celtic and Rangers will face each other for a place in the final of the Scottish League Cup.

The Glasgow giants were paired together in the draw for the last four, with Aberdeen facing Championship side Morton.

The semi-finals will take place on the weekend of October 22-23, with the final being played on November 27.

Celtic needed two late goals against Alloa on Wednesday to secure their place in the last four while Rangers eased past Queen of the South 5-0.
