Leicester City have held talks with Gokhan Inler’s agent over the midfielder’s future.

The 31-year-old’s representative, Dino Lamberti, has spoken to the Premier League champions following Inler’s disappointing first season in England.

No decision has been made, but Inler hinted last season he would be prepared to leave the King Power Stadium following his lack of action.

He admitted in January he had other options, but stayed to be loyal to boss Claudio Ranieri, yet Schalke have a long-standing interest after they lost out to Leicester for his signature last summer.

Cole leaves Celtic

Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic clear-out has continued after the Hoops confirmed forward Carlton Cole has been released.

His exit from Parkhead follows the departures of fellow strikers Anthony Stokes and Colin Kazim-Richards, who were also both deemed surplus to requirements by the new management team.

Cole, 32, was a surprise signing last November after joining as a free agent following his release by West Ham.

The former Chelsea frontman managed just five appearances during his seven-month stint in Glasgow.

Sanchez calls for Colombia focus

Colombia midfielder Carlos Sanchez has warned they must stay focused to end a 12-year Copa America semi-final wait.

The Aston Villa man has placed the importance on Colombia’s mental state as they aim for the last four for the first time since 2004.

Colombia face Peru in New Jersey tomorrow and Sanchez has told his team-mates to remain mentally strong to end their drought.

“Our physical aspect is fundamental, but a lot of games are usually won by the mental aspect,” the 30-year-old said.

Peru are looking to qualify for a third straight Copa America semi-final having made it out of every group stage since 1997.

All hail to Bale in Welsh town Bala

The small north Wales town of Bala has temporarily renamed itself Bale for the duration of the Euro 2016 in honour of the country’s most famous footballer.

Bale was the key man in Wales’s first qualification to a major tournament since 1958.

“It’s a great way to honour Gareth Bale and get behind the Welsh squad for Euro 2016,” local councillor Dilwyn Morgan said.

“Bale is a sporting star and this move should put Bala, sorry, Bale, on the international map.”

All the road signs into the town of around 2,000 residents have been changed to Bale... at least until Wales are knocked out.

Napoli ‘too small’ for Marek Hamsik

Slovakia coach Jan Kozak believes that Marek Hamsik, the orchestrator of his side’s 2-1 victory over Russia at Euro 2016, has become such an outstanding player that he has outgrown his Italian club Napoli.

Hamsik, who made one goal and scored the other in the first half, was now ready to join one of Europe’s elite teams after the tournament, Kozak said.

“Marek Hamsik has matured as a person and as a player at Napoli,” Kozak said when asked if the 28-year-old could be one of the players of the tournament.

“But Napoli has become too small for him. I think he’s ready to play for a really big club.”

Petkovic admits missing equaliser

Admir Mehmedi added another spectacular goal to the growing Euro 2016 catalogue... but his boss missed it.

The Switzerland striker’s volley secured a 1-1 draw against Group A rivals Romania in Paris.

But coach Vladimir Petkovic had turned his back on the action and did not witness Mehmedi’s 57th-minute thunderbolt.

“I didn’t see our goal. I was looking to make a change at the time and I had my back to the action,” he said.

“I am told it was excellent and of course it was well deserved.”

Dortmund sign defender Guerreiro

Borussia Dortmund have signed defender Raphael Guerreiro from French side Lorient on a four-year deal until 2020.

The 22-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Portugal, made more than 100 appearances during his three-year stay with the Ligue 1 club.

“Raphael Guerreiro is a technically experienced player who is equally comfortable in several positions,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said.

“We are very happy that he has decided to come to Dortmund.”

Guerreiro joins Turkish teenager Emre Mor and midfielder Sebastian Rode, who have already penned deals with last season’s German Bundesliga runners-up.
