Brazil fired Dunga as coach yesterday, the national football confederation said, two days after his side failed to get past the group stages of the Centenary Copa America.

The Brazilians drew 0-0 with Ecuador and beat Haiti 7-1 but were beaten 1-0 by Peru to exit the competition at the group stages for the first time since 1987.

Dunga, who was in his second spell as Brazil coach, was fired after a meeting at the CBF in Rio.

“The Brazilian Football Confederation decided this Tuesday to dissolve the technical commission of the Brazilian national team,” the CBF said.

“National teams coordinator Gilmar Rinaldi, coach Dunga and their entire team will leave their posts.”

Koeman named as Everton manager

Dutchman Ronald Koeman was named as Everton’s new manager yesterday after South-ampton reluctantly accepted his resignation.

“We are really pleased to have secured the man who was our number one target from the moment we set out to appoint a new manager,” chairman Bill Kenwright said.

Koeman, a European Cup winner as a player with Barcelona, joined Southampton from Feyenoord in 2014, guiding them to seventh place in his first season and sixth last term, earning a Europa League spot.

The 58-year-old Gasperini, who has also had coaching spells with Inter and Palermo, guided Genoa to 11th place in Serie A while his new club finished two spots lower.

Reja left Atalanta on Monday and has been strongly linked with the Slovenia national team coaching position.

Barcelona agree to pay €5.5m fine

Barcelona have agreed to pay a fine of €5.5 million to the Spanish authorities to settle a tax fraud case over the transfer of Brazil international Neymar in 2013.

Barcelona had been accused of concealing part of Neymar’s transfer fee when he moved to Spain from Santos, with several investigations carried out in Spain and Brazil.

The club confirmed in a statement yesterday that its board had approved the agreement at a meeting the previous day.

The vote by Barca’s board approves a pact to absolve both current president Josep Bartomeu and former president Sandro Rosell of wrongdoing with regard to the transfer.
