Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback is being investigated over allegedly breaking betting rules.

Gambling rules introduced in 2014 forbid players and coaches from betting on any footballing activity worldwide.

Colback could now face FA charges, even though it is understood that the match in which the 26-year-old allegedly broke these rules has no bearing on Newcastle’s fight against relegation from the Premier League.

It is FA policy not to comment on such cases until an individual is charged.

Memorable season for Ferencvaros

League champions Ferencvaros landed the double for the first time since 2004 after beating arch-rivals Ujpest 1-0 in the Hungarian Cup final with a late header from captain Zoltan Gera.

Gera was on target from close range after Tamas Hajnal’s corner was nodded towards goal by Gabor Gyomber.

“I had a strange feeling the ball would come my way. It has to be one of the most important goals of my career,” said the 37-year-old former Fulham and West Brom midfielder.

Terry’s red card

Captain John Terry may have played his final game for Chelsea after receiving his second red card of the season in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Sunderland.

The 35-year-old centre-half, who has made more than 700 appearances in all competitions for the Stamford Bridge club, is out of contract at the end of the season and there is no sign that Chelsea are about to offer him a new deal.

Two red cards in the same season normally activates a ban of two games but Terry’s fate would be determined by the contents of the referee’s match report, said an FA spokesman.

Stuttgart’s Kramny remains hopeful

Stuttgart coach Jurgen Kramny has vowed to fight to the end and hope for a miracle after a “bitter” defeat to Mainz left them on the brink of only the second relegation in the club’s history.

The Swabians travel to Wolfsburg next weekend needing to win and hope Eintracht Frankfurt win at Werder Bremen to earn a second shot at survival via the relegation play-off after Saturday’s 3-1 loss at home to Mainz.

Angry fans stormed onto the field at the final whistle to confront the players, much to Kramny’s disappointment, but he urged the fans not to give up.

“It’s all very bitter, also the way it has come about,” he said.

“But it’s not all over yet.

“That means we’ve got to give everything right until the last drop. It may be hard to think about that right now, but miracles do happen in football and we now need one of these.”

Alessio Cerci ruled out of Euro 2016

Genoa forward Alessio Cerci must undergo knee surgery this week, ruling him out of the European Championship.

The on-loan Atletico Madrid attacker has not played since April 16 due to cartilage damage in his right knee and requires an operation on Tuesday, Genoa said in a statement.

The 28-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Milan but struggled to establish himself there, making 13 goalless appearances before securing another temporary move to Genoa where he has bagged four goals in 11 Serie A outings.

While an outsider for Italy’s squad, Cerci was called up in November. He also represented the national side at the 2014 World Cup.

Double joy for Ritchie De Laet

Ritchie de Laet enjoyed an unprecedented double celebration on Saturday when he picked up a Premier League winner’s medal on the day his other team won promotion to the top flight.

The 27-year-old journeyman Belgian defender, who played 12 league matches for Leicester this season, joined Middlesbrough on loan in January and made 10 appearances for the north-east club to help them finish second in the Championship.

After Boro drew 1-1 with Brighton on Saturday to confirm their promotion, De Laet travelled to the King Power Stadium to see Leicester beat Everton 3-1 before collecting English soccer’s biggest prize for the first time.

“It’s crazy… it’s a great day for me,” De Laet told the BBC.

Allegri wants ten more years at Juve

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is hoping to stay at the Turin club for at least 10 more years after signing a new deal.

Juve clinched a record fifth consecutive Serie A title last month and, despite speculation linking him with a move, Allegri has agreed a one-year extension to his deal that will keep him with the team until at least 2018.

“I hope to stay for 10-20 years,” he told reporters.

“Maybe not 20 as I’d like to retire before I’m senile.”

Allegri is also eyeing a second consecutive double with Juve who meet Milan in the Italian Cup final on May 21.
