Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen are expecting their third child.

The happy couple, both 29, went online to announce the new arrival is expected in January.

Rooney tweeted: “Delighted that me and @ColeenRoo have our 3rd child on the way.

Coleen added: “Baby number 3 is on the way... January!! We are so happy and excited.”

The childhood sweethearts, who married in Italy in 2008, already have two sons – Kai, five, and two-year-old Klay.

Watford end Santon interest

Watford have pulled out of the race to sign Italian defender Davide Santon from Inter.

The Premier League newcomers had opened talks with Inter last month in a bid to lure the former Newcastle player back to England. However, the 24-year-old full-back has turned down a move to Vicarage Road.

“I can say that the deal is now off the table and negotiations will not continue,” Hornets owner Gino Pozzo said.

“I see no particular enthusiasm in the lad, despite all the time that we gave him to reflect and evaluate the deal.”

Santon is under contract with Inter until June 2018.

Carvajal extends Real contract

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has signed a one-year contract extension with the Spanish club. The new deal will see the Spain international tied down to Real until June 30, 2020.

Carvajal was sold to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2012 but returned to the Bernabeu 12 months later after Real exercised a buy-back option on the player.

Carvajal, 23, made 30 La Liga appearances last season and started in five Champions Lea-gue games to help his team reach the semi-final stages.

Carvajal’s future had been in doubt after Real signed Brazilian Danilo from Porto.

Real travel to Australia on Sunday to begin their summer tour under new coach Rafa Benitez.

Fenerbahce start Van Persie talks

Fenerbahce have opened transfer talks with Manchester United over signing Netherlands striker Robin van Persie, the Turkish club said yesterday.

The 31-year-old joined United from Arsenal for £24m in August 2012 and had an impressive debut season, finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer as the Old Trafford side won the title.

But the Dutchman struggled for form and fitness under Louis van Gaal last term and slipped down the pecking order.

Van Persie could follow his former United team-mate Nani to Fenerbahce after the Portugal winger completed a move to the Turkish club earlier this week.

Bayern Munich plan Schweinsteiger talks

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that Bastian Schweinsteiger is “flattered” by reported interest from Manchester United, and says he plans to hold talks with the Germany midfielder soon.

United boss Louis van Gaal is understood to be keen on signing the Germany captain this summer and Rummenigge says the rumours have pricked Schweinsteiger’s ears.

“I spoke to Bastian Schweinsteiger on the phone while on holiday and we’re going to meet again when he’s back,” Rummenigge said.

“I’m not going to hide the fact that I discerned from these talks that he is flattered by the interest from England.”

Petrescu quits

Coach Dan Petrescu led Targu Mures to their first major trophy with a 1-0 win over Steaua Bucha-rest in the Romanian Super Cup on Wednesday before he quit after one match in charge to join Chinese side Jiangsu Sainty.

Petrescu was named coach of the Romanian league runners-up last month after signing a three-year contract, but the win over Steaua was his only official game in charge.

“Steaua were the better team in the first half and I shouted at the players at half-time ‘do you want me to leave now?’,” said Petrescu, who was one of Romania’s most notable players, winning 95 international caps and scoring 12 goals.

“It’s very hard to leave the team in this moment,” the former Chelsea defender added.

Figueiras makes Genoa switch

Sevilla have loaned Portuguese right-back Diogo Figueiras to Italian side Genoa for the 2015-16 campaign.

Genoa have the option to make the 24-year-old’s move permanent next summer.

A statement from Sevilla read: “Diogo Figueiras passed a medical before signing a contract that will keep him in Liguria through the 2015-16 campaign. Included in the deal is the possibility for Genoa to purchase the player on the terms already agreed.”

Figueiras, a youth product of Benfica, joined Sevilla from Pacos Ferreira two years ago.

He made 25 league appearances as Sevilla finished fifth in 2014-15. Figueiras also helped Sevilla lift the Europa League for the second time in a row.
