Torino defender Matteo Dar-mian is on the verge of signing for Manchester United, according to reports in Italy.

Darmian has been strongly linked to United this summer and Sky Italia said an agreement has been reached between the two clubs for the 25-year-old to move to Old Trafford.

According to Sky Italia, Torino have accepted an initial fee of 18 million euros with a further two million euros in variables. Torino reportedly turned down an initial 12 million euro bid from United earlier this month.

Tuttosport reported the player had already agreed personal terms with United. Darmian is expected to sign a four-year deal and earn £2m per season.

Spurs new stadium to host NFL games

Tottenham have announced a deal with the NFL that will see them host fixtures in their new stadium.

The Premier League club are due to move into a new home in 2018 and will now host regular-season NFL games on an artificial surface which will be installed under the regular grass pitch used by Spurs.

Tottenham, who will relocate for a season whilst the work is done, have completed a 10-year deal with the NFL that will see them host a minimum of two games a year.

Wembley has already hosted 11 NFL fixtures, with three more scheduled for later in 2015.

Saints get Martina

Southampton have announced the signing of defender Cuco Martina from FC Twente.

The Curacao international has signed a two-year deal at St Mary’s after boss Ronald Koeman revealed earlier this week that a move for the 25-year-old was close.

With left-back Ryan Bertrand having undergone knee surgery, Martina will now link up with his new team-mates for a pre-season tour of Austria knowing there is a chance to establish himself in Koeman’s side before the new Barclays Premier League season kicks off.

Castan comeback

Roma defender Leandro Castan says he is confident and ready to resume his career after recovering from a brain operation last December.

The Brazilian underwent neurosurgery to remove a cavernoma, a cluster of abnormal blood vessels found in the brain, after suffering an acute bout of dizziness in a match against Empoli in September, his only appearance last season.

“I’m very confident about the success of my operation and the future,” he told reporters.

“It gives me goosebumps just thinking about playing again. I can’t wait, I’ve never been afraid of making a mistake. I’m confident I can return to my level.”

Hummels commits to Bor. Dortmund

In-demand Germany defender Mats Hummels will stay with Borussia Dortmund for another year.

The 26-year-old World Cup winner has been linked heavily with a move to Manchester United and admitted to being flattered by the interest.

But having seen a number of team-mates, such as Mario Goetze and Robert Lewan-dowski, leave the club in recent seasons, Hummels was not ready to depart Dortmund yet.

“There have always been rumours about almost every one of our players, but I decided not to make the move this year,” Hummels said.

“Of course when the big clubs are interested it’s an honour. But I decided I wanted to stay here.”

Manquillo returns to Atletico Madrid

Spanish defender Javier Manquillo has returned to Atletico Madrid after his two-year loan at Liverpool was terminated early.

The Spanish club have confirmed that the 21-year-old has been recalled and the deal cancelled by mutual consent because he did not get sufficient game time during his first season at Anfield.

Playing at right-back, Manquillo initially made a positive impression at the Reds but then fell out of favour and did not play again in the Premier League after December.

His only appearances in 2015 came in FA Cup ties against AFC Wimbledon and Bolton and the Europa League defeat at Besiktas.

Tottenham sign Alderweireld

Tottenham Hotspur have signed Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld on a five-year contract, the club said yesterday.

The 26-year-old spent last season on loan with Southampton, making 26 Premier League ap-pearances, and had been linked in media reports with a permanent move to St Mary’s.

But the Belgium international will join countrymen Jan Vertonghen, Moussa Dembele and Nacer Chadli at White Hart Lane after joining Spurs for a fee reported in British media to be around £11.5 million.

“I’m proud to be a Tottenham player. I’m happy to be here and hope to have a wonderful time with this team,” the club’s twitter feed quoted him as saying.
