Bournemouth’s imminent promotion into the Premier League could see them pocket at least £130 million, according to business advisory firm Deloitte.

Bournemouth, along with Watford, are expected to bring in added revenue upwards of £130m when they move into the Premier League due to a combination of extra income and parachute payments should they be relegated after just one season, although the figure will rise significantly should they survive.

Deloitte’s Adam Bull said: “The prize becomes around £230m if the promoted club can survive its first season and benefit from the new and improved broadcast deals in the 2016-17 season.”

Sherwood hopes Benteke will stay

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood will not stand in Christian Benteke’s way if the striker wants a lucrative move elsewhere.

Benteke is likely to be a transfer target for big clubs and Sherwood concedes if Benteke wanted to go and the money was right, he would be allowed to leave.

He said: “It’s good news that people are talking about Christian again.

“I’ve no idea what he’d cost, because I don’t want to sell him. It would have to be a lot of money for anyone to take him from us.”

Squad help with Toffees discount

Everton’s players have chipped in to help subsidise the cost of tickets for fans travelling to West Ham this month.

Contributions from the squad, in conjunction with the club, mean there will be a £10 discount for supporters going to Upton Park on May 16, bringing the cost of an adult ticket down to £45.

“Everton fans’ support is always magnificent, our away fans especially, and this gesture is to show our gratitude to them for their support throughout the season,” said captain Phil Jagielka.

The subsidy for this fixture comes separate to the 2014/15 Away Fan Initiative which saw tickets for the games at Newcastle and Swansea reduced.

Butcher in charge

Newport have appointed former England captain Terry Butcher as their new manager.

The League Two club, who are unable to reach the play-off positions on the final day of the season, have been supervised by caretaker boss Jimmy Dack since Justin Edinburgh joined Gillingham in February.

But 56-year-old Butcher has now been asked to lead the Exiles for the next two years.

Butcher earned 77 caps for England and was a long-term fixture for Ipswich and Rangers.

His management career in-cludes spells with Sunderland, Brentford and Inverness and has also taken him to Australia with Sydney FC, while he was most recently in charge at Hibernian.

No knighthood for Beckham – poll

David Beckham should never be knighted, according to a new poll.

More than half of the 1,000 questioned in a Usurv poll commissioned by PA Sport ahead of the former England captain’s 40th birthday today said they did not think Beckham should be awarded the knighthood.

In the poll, 36.45 per cent of respondents said they would be happy for the ex-Manchester United man to become Sir David Beckham but 50.82 per cent disagreed, with 14.53 per cent saying they did not know whether he should be knighted or not.

Beckham won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups and one European Cup during his time at Old Trafford.

Colombia won’t arrest Rincon

Colombian police will not arrest former Real Madrid and Corinthians midfielder Freddy Rincon because the South American nation has no extradition treaty with Panama where he is wanted on drug-related charges.

“The Interpol circular is for a preventive detention pending extradition,” director of Judicial Police and Criminal Investigations Jorge Rodriguez said.

“So if we can’t extradite Colombians to Panama and if there are no warrants out for him here then we can’t arrest him.”

Interpol re-issued an arrest warrant for the retired player this week on charges of criminal conspiracy relating to drugs. His whereabouts are unknown.

Corinthians stadium for Olympics

The city of Sao Paulo confirmed that Corinthians Arena will be used as an Olympic soccer venue after the Rio 2016 organising committee agreed to pay for the adjustments to host 10 matches there at next year’s Games.

Rio stepped in after Corinthians and Sao Paulo refused to pay for alterations local media have estimated will cost $10 million.

The impasse had cast doubt on whether the stadium, which hosted six World Cup games including the prestigious opening match last year, would be used for the Olympic tournament.

The Corinthians Arena will host six matches in the men’s tournament and four in the women’s next year. The other cities to host football games are Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Salvador, Manaus and Rio de Janeiro.
