Inter have signed Chelsea right-back Wallace on a season-long loan, the Serie A side have an-nounced.

The 19-year-old made his senior debut at Fluminense and signed for Chelsea earlier this year before being loaned back to the Brazilian club.

Wallace impressed on Chelsea’s pre-season tour to Asia but with chances of a work permit in England remote, Blues boss Jose Mourinho was keen to loan him out in Europe for further experience.

Mourinho’s former club Inter have taken up the option.

Full-back Peruzzi opts for Catania

Catania have completed the signing of former Sunderland target Gino Peruzzi from Velez Sarsfield.

The 21-year-old full-back was close to completing a move to Paolo Di Canio’s side but concerns arising from two medical examinations convinced the Black Cats to pull out of the deal.

Serie A club Catania, however, have assessed the Argentinian’s long-term leg injury and have decided to take him to the Stadio Angelo Massimino for a reported three million euro fee. Contract terms were not disclosed.

Legia ordered to close stand

Polish champions Legia Warsaw have been ordered to close one of the stands at their stadium at their next home European tie following “racist behaviour” by supporters at a previous game, UEFA said yesterday.

UEFA, who also fined the club €30,000, said that under new rules introduced in July, a partial stadium closure was now the minimum sanction for incidents involving racist behaviour.

Legia’s next home match is the Champions League play-off second leg against Steaua Bucharest on August 27.

The incidents happened in the second qualifying round tie against Welsh side The New Saints, UEFA said.

Atletico get cover for keeper Courtois

Atletico Madrid have signed goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia on a one-year contract as cover for Belgian international Thibaut Courtois, the La Liga club said.

The 33-year-old former Spain youth international arrives as a free agent after playing for Deportivo La Coruna, who were relegated from the top flight last season.

First-choice Courtois, who won Spain’s “Zamora” trophy for conceding the fewest goals in the top flight last season, is spending a third season on loan at Atletico from Chelsea.

The King’s Cup winners start their domestic league campaign at Sevilla on Sunday and host Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup first leg the following Wednesday.

Jerome fined for breaching rules

Stoke City striker Cameron Jerome has been fined £50,000 for breaching unspecified Football Association regulations on betting, the governing body announced yesterday.

“Jerome, who was also severely warned as to his future conduct, admitted a number of breaches of the FA’s Betting Rules and requested a personal hearing which took place on Tuesday 13 August 2013,” the FA said on its website.

The fine is subject to appeal and Stoke said that there was no ban or suspension involved.

Captain’s grave restored

The gravestone of England’s first soccer captain has been restored following an online campaign set up by a fan.

Cuthbert Ottaway was handed the honour of becoming England’s first captain way back in 1872 when the Three Lions played the oldest recorded international game in history against Scotland.

England supporter Paul McKay was horrified to learn that Otta-way’s gravestone, in Paddington cemetery, had fallen into a state of disrepair and started a cam-paign to restore it.

The FA and the Professional Footballers’ Association pledged money to McKay’s campaign and a service took place this week to unveil the new gravestone.

Llorente staying

Juve striker Fernando Llorente has shut down reports linking him with a prompt return to Spain just two months after he arrived in Italy.

The 28-year-old left Athletic Bilbao at the end of June to join the Serie A champions but has since struggled to make much of an impact in pre-season warm-ups.

Llorente has been tipped to join Valencia on a season-long loan deal after reportedly disappointing Juve coach Antonio Conte, but the striker insists recent newspaper rumours are “all lies”.

“It is not true what has been written – it’s all lies,” he said.

“Conte is pleased with what I’m doing. It was a very tough pre-season and we worked very hard. I wasn’t used to the system and I’m trying my best to get used to the new patterns of play.

“This will be an important season, especially with the World Cup in Brazil coming up.”
