Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has retained his position as the wealthiest football manager in Britain with a fortune of £34 million, according to the Sunday Times Sport Rich List.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and ex-Ipswich boss Roy Keane are ranked joint second, worth £29m, ahead of Manchester City’s Roberto Mancini (£21m).

The fourth annual guide to the wealthiest people in British sport rates Lewis Hamilton, now worth £60m, an increase of £5m since last year, as the wealthiest British driver currently competing in Formula One.

Wenger confirms guard of honour

Arsenal will keep with tradition and form a guard of honour for new Premier League champions Manchester United when the sides meet at The Emirates tomorrow.

“That is part of the tradition of English football and I want that, of course, to be respected,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told a news conference yesterday.

“I’m French, I work in England and the English tradition should be respected.

“When you work somewhere abroad you have to respect the culture of the country,” he added.

Manchester United secured their 20th league title with a 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday.

Fry appointed EPL chairman

Anthony Fry, a British financier, has been appointed as the new chairman of the English Premier League for the next three years, the League said yesterday.

Fry will replace the long-serving Dave Richards who is stepping down after 14 years in the part-time role.

Fry, 57, is well known in the City of London after a career in corporate finance with banks including Rothschild, BZW, Credit Suisse and Lehman Brothers. He is current chairman of food company Dairy Crest.

Luiz targets perfect finish

David Luiz believes Chelsea must win all five of their remaining Premier League games to be certain of a place in the Champions League next season.

The Brazil defender’s last-gasp free-kick earned the Blues a 2-1 first-leg advantage in their Europa League semi-final with Switzerland’s Basel and now attentions turn to Swansea tomorrow and the pursuit of a top-four place.

“We need to take three points in all the games,” Luiz said.

“Tottenham is one key game, but we need to keep focused for the future, now on Sunday against Swansea, because they have a very, very good team.”

Bayern deny Lewandowski deal

Bayern Munich have denied claims they have a deal in place to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.

Reports in Germany yesterday suggested Lewandowski had signed a pre-contract with the Bundesliga champions and would move south either this summer – should Bayern agree a fee with Dortmund – or in 2014 when he becomes a free agent.

But a Bayern statement read: “FC Bayern, contrary to these reports, do not have any contract with Robert Lewandowski.”

Boateng won’t leave Milan

Kevin Prince Boateng has no plans to leave Milan despite the racist abuse he was subjected to this season.

The Ghana midfielder has been on the receiving end of racist chants and jeers, but he told Gazzetta dello Sport yesterday that he will not quit the Rossoneri.

“I want to stay here for some time to come. I’m happy in Milan and I see it as my home,” the 26-year-old said. “I want to remain for a long time yet.

“I’m really saddened that I still see and hear such things hap-pening and you ask yourself why. But I don’t want a change of environment because of four or five idiots.”

Inter hit by UEFA fine

Inter have been fined €45,000 for the racist behaviour of their fans during a Europa League last 16 second-leg match at home to Tottenham Hotspur in March, UEFA said yesterday.

Benfica have also been hit by a €32,000 fine for organisational issues and the conduct of their supporters at the Europa League last 16, first leg against Girondins Bordeaux in Lisbon last month.

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor was allegedly subjected to monkey chants and plastic bananas were waved in one section of the half-empty San Siro.

Inter were fined €50,000 by the Italian league in February after fans racially abused their former player Mario Balotelli in a derby with Milan.
