Two men were arrested due to alleged racially-aggravated public order offences at the Chelsea vs West Ham match on Sunday, police have announced.

The two men have been bailed to return later this month and the Metropolitan Police is also investigating incidents of coin-throwing at the game at Stamford Bridge.

Coins and other objects were thrown in the direction of Chelsea’s players as they celebrated Frank Lampard’s goal.

The FA said it will liaise with the police and the two clubs involved.

Warnock advice

Leeds boss Neil Warnock has urged the club’s owners not to panic in their search for a new manager.

Warnock is ready to step aside after Saturday’s home defeat to Huddersfield left Leeds seven points adrift of the Championship play-offs with eight games left.

But the 64-year-old has told the Dubai-based owners that he can play a leading role in finding his successor.

“I want them to get the best manager they can get to replace me and some of them might not be available until the summer,” said Warnock.

“I know they’ve (fans) heard it all before, but I think there’s some optimism at the club. It’s a great club and I can help them as well whether I’m here or not.”

Roura dismisses rumours of rift

Assistant coach Jordi Roura has described as “absurd” rumours of a rift between Lionel Messi and David Villa after the pair combined to devastating effect in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Rayo Vallecano.

Victory helped Barcelona restore their 13-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga and Roura felt moved to categorically dismiss reports of bad feeling between the two.

“This issue of a conflict I have heard many times – it is absurd,” said Roura.

“Currently the relationship between the two is just like it was a few months ago... very good.”

Roma’s Totti aiming for the top

Francesco Totti has set his sights on becoming Serie A’s all-time leading goalscorer after moving up to second on the list.

The Roma legend netted his 226th top-flight goal in a 2-0 win over Parma on Sunday to go ahead of Gunnar Nordahl, who had spells at Milan and Roma.

Only Silvio Piola, who scored most of his 274 goals for Roma’s bitter rivals Lazio, is above him, 48 in front.

“Now my goal is to exceed Piola,” the 36-year-old said.

“I’m happy with the win. I think it was the wonderful evening we all wanted. We were so many points behind Inter, now we are level on points.”

I had no plans to coach – Neville

Gary Neville has re-vealed he never had any plans to go into coaching so soon after retiring from playing.

The former Manchester United full-back is one of England manager Roy Hodgson’s coaches, a role he combines with working as a match analyst for Sky Sports.

“It was no plan of mine to go into coaching,” he said.

“I was quite comfortable that I had stepped out of football and I didn’t want to rush things – while not dismissing the fact that I did want to go back in eventually.”

He admitted, though, the chance to be involved with England was what persuaded him to reassess in May last year.

“It’s England, I loved playing for England, I love my country,” he added.

FA marks Muamba anniversary

The English FA marked the first anniversary of Fabrice Muamba’s cardiac arrest during an FA Cup tie by announcing it was providing more than 900 life-saving defibrillators to senior men’s and women’s soccer clubs in England.

In a joint statement with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) yesterday, the FA said the “initiative will create thousands of life-savers by giving players, staff and fans access to the equipment and information needed to save a life.”

The BHF will match a donation of £400,000 from the FA towards the cost of the defibrillators, with another £400,000 coming from clubs.

Beckham banishes St Etienne demons

David Beckham buried the bad memories of his World Cup sending-off when he played a full game at Geoffroy Guichard stadium as Paris St Germain drew 2-2 with hosts St Etienne in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

Fifteen years ago, Beckham was shown a straight red card for kicking Diego Simeone in a last-16 World Cup game at Geoffroy Guichard. Argentina went through on penalties after a 2-2 draw and England’s elimination was widely blamed on Beckham.

On Sunday, Beckham was handed his first Ligue 1 start in the same stadium.

At the end of the match, he completed a total of 75 passes, more than all his team-mates.
