Rooney should stay – Andy Cole

Former striker Andy Cole hopes Wayne Rooney does not use him as an example for why he should leave Manchester United fol-lowing the England striker’s omission from the starting line-up for last week’s Champions League defeat by Real Madrid.

“I can understand how Wayne might feel,” Cole, who left United for Blackburn following Ruud van Nistelrooy’s arrival in 2001, said.

“Looking back on what happened to me, if I hadn’t been so headstrong and stubborn I could have stayed at United.
