Southampton hope to complete the signing of Gaston Ramirez despite Bologna delaying the move due to their financial troubles.

It is understood a fee and payment plan has been negotiated for the 21-year-old winger who is reported to be commanding a club record fee of £12 million.

Former club Penarol, who own 30% of his registration, are also satisfied by the terms of the agreement. However, it is understood cash-strapped Bologna are stalling as they seek to secure a loan against the repayments.

Southampton are determined for the transfer to proceed having beaten off competition from Liverpool and Spurs for Ramirez.

Goian leaves Rangers for Spezia

Rangers defender Dorin Goian has joined Serie B outfit Spezia on a one-year loan deal, the Ibrox club have confirmed.

The centre-half returns to Italy just a year after he arrived in Glasgow from Palermo.

Goian is the latest first-team player to depart the Glasgow giants, who were voted into the Irn-Bru Third Division after being consigned to liquidation.

Maurice Edu also looks set to be heading for the exit door, with Stoke believed to be interested.

The American midfielder has also been weighing up a potential move to Ipswich.

Adebayor delight at Spurs switch

Emmanuel Adebayor declared he is “hungry for goals” after finally completing his permanent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week.

Manchester City and Adebayor came to an agreement on the terms of a pay-off, allowing the Togo striker to complete his permanent move to White Hart Lane for £5 million.

“I’m back!!!! Tottenham here I come!! I’m hungry for goals... get ready,” Adebayor tweeted.

“I am pleased to be signing for Spurs on a permanent basis after finally agreeing my departure with Manchester City,” he added.

“It may have taken longer than expected but I am delighted to be back at Tottenham Hotspur.”

Arsenal defender Santos arrested

Arsenal defender Andre Santos was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a car chase the day before the club’s first Premier League game of the season, police said.

The Brazil international left-back, 29, was detained near the north London club’s training ground, last Friday morning.

Police said the vehicle involved was a black Maserati sportscar which officers noticed was being driven erratically and which failed to stop.

Santos has made 15 appearances for Arsenal since joining the club from Fenerbahce for £5.5m last year.

Welbeck pens new Man. United deal

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck has signed a new four-year contract which will keep him at the club until at least June 2016.

The 21-year-old first made his debut for the Old Trafford side in 2008 but over the last 18 months has found himself playing a much greater role in the first-team.

“Danny has been with the club since he was eight years old and has made fantastic progress in the last couple of years,” manager Alex Ferguson said.

“He has become an important player at international level as well. This year is another important one for him. He has a bright future ahead of him.”

12 subs allowed in the Serie A

The Italian Football Federation announced that Serie A clubs will be able to name as many as 12 substitutes, starting from this weekend.

A formal request was lodged by Serie A president Maurizio Berretta and it was accepted by the Italian governing body earlier this week.

The decision means that clubs competing in the Serie A, Coppa Italia and youth league matches will be permitted the extra reserves.

“I thank the international and national organisations that have introduced this rule of absolute common sense,” Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said.

“I made the proposal a while ago because I thought it was important to give more choice to the coaches for changes during games.”

Juventus continue Jovetic chase

Juventus are ready to make one final bid for Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic, reports in Italy said yesterday.

The Italian champions have long been chasing the Montenegro international but their hopes of a transfer have so far been rebuffed by Fiorentina.

The Viola insist the player is not for sale even though they would consider to make a deal if they receive a €30 million offer.

It seems, Juve are ready to offer Fabio Quagliarella and cash for Jovetic.

This summer, Juve have also been linked with Man. City’s Edin Dzeko and Athletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente.
