Striker Maxi Lopez has no intention of returning to Catania despite being listed among the 32-man squad for the Sicilian club ahead of the new season.

Maxi Lopez spent the last six months of 2011-12 on loan at the San Siro but Milan decided against signing him on a permanent basis so for now he is back on the Catania books.

Catania sporting director Sergio Gasparin said: “After Milan, he has expressed his intention not to return to Catania.

“Each player in our squad must be committed to the club. These coming days we shall evaluate all situations relating to Maxi Lopez.”

Giovani may stay

Giovani dos Santos claims he would be prepared to stay on at Tottenham, with no move away from White Hart Lane arranged as yet.

It was expected that the Mexico international would be among those offloaded by Spurs this summer as they usher in a new era under Andre Villas-Boas.

Dos Santos has struggled for games throughout his time in England but the 23-year-old says he will continue to fight for a first-team role if he remains in north London.

“The window closes at the end of August. I’m still a Tottenham player and if there is no other option, I’ll stay and do my best like I have always done,” he said.

QPR planning for new stadium

QPR are planning to move to a new 35,000-seater stadium and plans will be revealed this month, reports said.

Loftus Road is the smallest ground in the top flight with a capacity of 18,439 and the Rs have been vocal in their attempts to find a plot of land for a new stadium.

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes said QPR are evaluating potential sites before posting via Twitter they have made a “great first step” in their attempts for a new stadium.

It’s understood that drawings are at an advanced stage and QPR will make a stadium announcement before the start of the new season.

Lennon focusing on SPL title

Neil Lennon denies there will be more focus on Celtic’s European campaign next season in the absence of Rangers from the Scottish Premier League.

Asked if his attention will now be more on Europe, where Celtic face two qualifying rounds before the Champions League group stages, the Hoops manager said: “I’m not too sure about that. We are the champions and the most important thing is to retain the SPL title.

“Europe is something that we would like to progress too so we’re preparing as best we can.

“These games come very, very quickly and are always fraught with danger. But Europe is a big carrot for us this year.”

Ryan Giggs to captain Team GB

Ryan Giggs will captain the Great Britain football team at the London 2012 Olympics.

The FA announced the Man. United winger would lead the hosts’ bid for gold. The 38-year-old is one of the three over-age players in Stuart Pearce’s squad for the Games.

Giggs said: “Obviously, I have experience and there are a lot of younger players in this squad, as captain hopefully I can pass that on to the younger players.”

Despite never having played in a major international tournament with Wales, his credentials are impeccable, having won 12 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two Champions League crowns.

He also won 64 caps for Wales before retiring from international football in 2007.

Lampard dismisses LA Galaxy link

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has played down talk of a move to Los Angeles Galaxy.

The 34-year-old, whose Blues contract expires next summer, sparked talk of a switch to the United States when he and agent Steve Kutner were pictured sitting with David Beckham at a recent MLS match.

But Lampard said: “There’s nothing in that at all. I’m here in Los Angeles on holiday.

“Steve’s over here a lot on music and football business. He organised a box so we could go to see the Galaxy game.

“Becks was suspended for the match, so he came and sat with us and we had a good laugh – that’s all.”

Malian Keita quits Barcelona

Mali midfielder Seydou Keita has quit Barcelona after his four-year contract ended, having won 14 titles with the team.

“Seydou Keita has announced that he won’t be staying at the club next season. FC Barcelona thanks Seydou Keita for his services over the years,” a Barcelona statement said.

Reports said that Keita, 32, was planning to move to Chinese club Dalian Aerbin.

Keita previously played for French clubs Marseille, Lorient and Lens before moving to Spain where he played for Seville for one season.

He moved to Barcelona in 2008 as the first signing by coach Pep Guardiola, who quit at the end of last season.
