Serie A champions Milan are looking to strengthen their midfield with the signing of Radja Naing-golan, currently on the books of Cagliari.

At present, Milan are facing problems in centre field and the club is not happy with the fitness levels of Kevin-Prince Boateng, Mark van Bommel and Clarence Seedorf while Mathieu Flamini is out long-term.

Nainggolan, a Belgium inter-national, is only 23 years old but has already made an impact at Cagliari.

Reports said, Milan would like to bring him to San Siro on loan in January in exchange for Stephan El Shaarawy.

Beckham flattered by PSG courtship

David Beckham said he was honoured that ambitious PSG boss Leonardo wants him to enjoy a career swansong at the French club, but insisted he will not make a decision on his future until the end of the season.

“I like Leonardo a lot, he is a great manager,” the former England skipper said.

“I’m honoured to know that he wants me to join PSG. It’s exciting, great things are happening in France. Leonardo has arrived, there’s a lot of money,” added the 36-year-old.

“I will wait until the end of the season and see how I feel and then I will decide.”

The season in the United States ends in November and Beckham will then be a free agent.

Edinson Cavani’s house burgled

Edinson Cavani’s house was burgled while the striker was away on international duty with Uruguay, the police in Naples said.

Thieves made off with gold necklaces and clothing, including a pair of the player’s football jerseys.

The burglary took place in the early hours of Sunday during which time there was no-one in the house, which lies between Bacoli and Pozzuoli outside Naples.

The burglary was discovered by some neighbours, who called in federal police.

Cavani is away on international duty in Uruguay and scored in Friday’s 4-2 victory against Bolivia in a 2014 World Cup qualifier.

Ferguson repels Pearce request

Alex Ferguson blocked Stuart Pearce’s plans to recall Danny Welbeck to the England U-21 scene.

Pearce was down to one fit striker and pondered turning to Welbeck for the match in Norway last night.

However, Pearce revealed a chat with Ferguson ended those plans.

“I spoke to Sir Alex straight after the (Iceland) game. He had concerns about Danny travelling back from Montenegro (with England’s senior side) and then getting on a plane to Oslo,” Pearce said.

“I understood that but I had to make the call because I had only got one striker in the squad. I had a decent chat with him and moved on from there.

“I quite understand his position.”

Cannavaro admits to Napoli regrets

Fabio Cannavaro has admitted to having regrets over his inability to secure a move to Napoli to end his career at his home town club.

The 38-year-old spent the last season of his career at Al Ahli in Dubai after Napoli opted against signing him when he left Juventus after the 2010 World Cup.

“The biggest regret I have is not being for Napoli what (Paolo) Maldini and (Francesco) Totti were for Milan and Roma respectively,” Cannavaro said.

“I hoped and dreamed of becoming a talisman for this team, my Napoli.”

Cannavaro spent the first three seasons of his career at his home town club but was then sold to Parma to ease Napoli’s financial struggles.

S. Africa complain after missing the cut

South Africa launched what ap-peared a futile appeal to the CAF as they attempted to find a way into the finals of the 2012 Africa Cup.

The Bafana boys thought their goalless draw with Sierra Leone on Sunday was enough to secure a place in the finals next year and even indulged in a post-match lap of honour.

The South Africa management thought the group was decided on goal difference only to discover Niger had qualified by virtue of a better head-to-head record between the three teams who finished on nine points: Niger, South Africa and Sierra Leone.

“We wish to signal that we intend to challenge this decision. Goal difference is the universally recognised means of separating teams,” the South Africa FA said.

Bender relieved after injury scare

Accrington defender Tom Bender admits he was lucky to avoid serious injury after describing his horrific collision during last week’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match against Tranmere as seeming “like more of a dream than reality”.

The match had to be abandoned as Bender received treatment for half an hour following an accidental clash with an Accrington team-mate.

He said: “When I came round, there were rumours I had broken my neck and I could die.

“The doctors then told me the outcome. I have no recollection of what happened. It seems like more of a dream than reality.”
