The total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (comprising Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) in March 2018 rose significantly by 12.8 per cent year-on-year to 2.4 million travellers. The accumulated passenger volume in the January-to-March period showed an increase of nine per cent to 6.1 million.

Vienna Airport also developed extremely positively, with the total number of passengers up 6.6 per cent from January to March 2018.

The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in March rose by 10.6 per cent compared to the prior-year month to 1,908,514 travellers. The number of local passengers was up by 11.2 per cent, whereas transfer passenger volume climbed by 9.1 per cent. In March, the number of flight movements also clearly increased by three per cent in a year-on-year comparison.

Malta Airport reported growth in passenger volume

Cargo volume at Vienna Airport showed a rise of 3.3 per cent from the comparable level of March 2017. The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in eastern Europe was up 10.6 per cent in March, and passenger traffic to western Europe rose by 9.2 per cent. In the same month, the number of passengers travelling to the Far East increased by 48 per cent from March 2017, and passenger volume to Middle Eastern destinations climbed by 16.9 per cent.

The number of passengers travelling to North America was up by 21.6 per cent and passenger traffic to Africa developed positively, rising by 69.9 per cent.

Malta Airport reported strong growth in passenger volume of 22.5 per cent in March and Kosice Airport also showed a year-on-year rise of 17.1 per cent in the number of passengers it handled.
