Malta’s Edward Fleri Soler won the 12th edition of the Euromed Malta Championship 2011.

The championship, which came to an end yesterday, was held at Mellieħa Bay and was made up of nine races spread over four days.

The event was contested by 130 competitors from 10 nations.

Fleri Soler won the Optimist Class Open race ahead of Great Britain’s Manuel Karyna and other local competitor Thomas Bonello Ghio.

Russian sailors dominated the Optimist Class Cadet Open with Danill Usachev finishing first ahead of compatriots Semen Mekhanikov and Zoya Novikova.

The Laser 4.7 Class honours went to Monaco’s Juan-Alberto Casalone and the inaugural RS Feva Class title was claimed by Britons E. Wells and J. Wells.

The Malta Euromed Championship was organised by the Malta Young Sailors Club with the co-operation of the Kunsill Malti għall-iSport and the Mellieħa Local Council.

Racing was held under the patronage of the Malta Sailing Federation.
