The next in the series of concerts organised by the Malta Cultural Institute will be held on Sunday.

This concert will feature the Alegria Academia & Dance Company. Besides flamenco, this company also performs all forms of dances.

They are frequently invited to perform in theatre, gala performances, cabaret and festivals, television and film and have a prolific repertoire earning them an esteemed reputation in the arts. The dancers individually tour abroad and study with notable maestros of dance.

The programme will start with a piano recital by 10-year-old Laetitia Amodio, who started her piano studies at the age of five, with her mother, Charmaine Amodio.

She passed the first seven grades of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with the highest distinction marks and is now preparing for her Grade 8 exam.

For the past three years, Laetitia has participated and excelled in several piano competitions, placing first in three international piano competitions abroad.

The MCI will also be presenting the Johann Strauss Clarinet Ensemble, directed by Godfrey Mifsud. This ensemble was set up in 2003 by Mr Mifsud and Michael Pirotta – both clarinet tutors at the School of Music – and is made up of clarinet students attending the School of Music passionate about music-making. The 2011-2012 set-up features musicians Jessica Ellul, Marita Cassar, Noel Curmi, Jeremy Mason, Ryan Magro, Neville Pace, Abigail Cortis, Henry Fenech, Christian Dimech, Mario Bugeja, Luca Vella, Pietrouska Mifsud, Joseph Xuereb, Michael Cutajar, Stephanie Gauci, Karl Camilleri, Christabel Bonello, Gabriel Agius, Ludwig Desira and Elsie Mifsud.

The last part of the evening will feature the Alegria Academia & Dance Company. Besides flamenco, this company also enjoys all forms of dances. Entrance is free of charge but donations towards the MCI fund, and to help cover the evening’s expenses, are most welcome.
