Five young Maltese jobseekers are to benefit from the opportunity to combine on-the-job vocational work experience with a value-added training framework in business creation and entrepreneurship in Exeter, UK, following an agreement reached by NSTS and Corkscrew.

Young people are being helped to follow career path

The NSTS Social Internship Developing Entrepreneurs (NSTS-SIDE) is partly funded by the EU, through Leonardo Da Vinci Mobility funds.

Maltese youths will benefit directly from the programme, which takes the best parts of an internship and provides a dynamic new programme that inspires youth to travel more and instils in them a stronger entrepreneurial spirit.

Corkscrew provides for internships and professional development programmes in the UK in a wide variety of career fields within mission-driven organisations including charities, NGOs, non-profits, responsible businesses and social enterprises.

The NSTS-SIDE programme aims to help young people develop important employability skills and instil in them more confidence to take control of their career path.

Mario Cassar, the organisation’s CEO, said the programme aimed to add value by providing youths with the opportunity to learn about a new culture outside their familiar surroundings in Malta. He also referred to Corkscrew’s mission of preparing students and young professionals to succeed and lead in the global workplace responsibly.

NSTS, which next year will be celebrating its 60th anniversary, adheres completely to this philosophy and supports student travel by fostering mobility and exchange of students at an international level.

NSTS operates a strong programme of travel experiences for both individual and groups of students, schoolchildren and youths from diverse interest movements.

The duration of the internship is four weeks, during which participants can maximise the understanding of entrepreneurship and the fundamentals needed in new business creation.

This initiative also provides an exciting opportunity for Malta’s young generation to use their English language skills in a business environment and to develop skills not otherwise attainable.

To be eligible, one needs to be between 18 and 26 years old, have a strong grasp of the English language and show a willingness to learn and a desire to work within a diverse cultural background which not only includes people from within the EU but potentially, from around the world. Candidates should also be unemployed within the vocational sector.

Interested applicants should send their application by e-mail on workplacements@nsts.org or by hand at 220, St Paul Street, Valletta, by not later than March 15.
