At least five people were injured in a traffic accident that happened close to a fruit and vegetable vendor’s van in Ħal Far at about 6.45pm yesterday.

The car involved in the accident, a Peugeot 205, was driven by a 28-year-old Ethiopian man who was resident at Ħal Far open centre, which is close to where the incident happened.

The police said the injured included a 68-year-old man from Tarxien, a 40-year-old man from Attard, a 27-year-old Somali woman of Ħal-Far, a Somali man, 30, resident in Ħamrun and a 32-year-old Nigerian woman of Ħal-Far.

Other people could possibly seek medical attention, the police said. The nature of the injuries was not immediately known.

The driver was taken away by the police and was subjected to a breathalyser test.

A large number of people, mostly from the open centre, assembled at the scene of the accident.
