Parliament yesterday started the debate in second reading of the Collective Proceedings Bill, which provides for collective proceedings for infringements of the Competition Act and the Consumer Affairs Act.
This is the fifth Bill which the House is concurrently discussing in parallel. The others are the Civil Code (Amendment No. 2) Bill, the Education (Amendment) Bill, the Sustainable Development Bill and the European Union (Amendment) Bill.
The opposition has accused the government of using such a method to fend off a division which it might call to approve the Bills.
According to yesterday’s Order Paper, other Bills on the House agenda are the Budget Measures Implementation Bill, the Protection of the Whistleblower Bill, the Periti (Amendment) Bill, the Central Bank of Malta (Amendment) Bill, the Various Laws (Criminal Matters) Amendment Bill, and the Cultural Heritage (Amendment) Bill.
No vote has been taken in parliament since the no confidence debate last month.
