The first Global Street Economy and Vendors Conference, supported by the Gozo Ministry, will be held between October 1 and 7 at the University’s Gozo Campus.

A joint project between the University of Malta and Giresun University, Turkey, the conference will also be held in collaboration with the University of Usak, Manas University and the Izmir Democracy University.

This is a small additional contribution to global peace, from the world competing with its streets, to the world at peace with its streets.

The 2,699 registered market and street vendors play a very important role in the daily life of Malta. Besides these, it is estimated that between 500 and 1,000 street vendors are working in Malta unlicensed and seasonally dependent.

“It is a fact that street economy also has an important place in Malta’s tourism. If the quality of the streets’ economy and services can be increased, the tourism sector will also benefit,” said Dr Osman Sirkeci, assistant professor at the Giresun University – School of Civil Aviation, and a guest researcher at the University of Malta

“It is very gratifying that these studies and the conference project are supported by Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana. At the same time, such conferences and projects by academics and researchers will make a contribution to the duties and activities of the government and the ministry,” he added.
