The first race of the inaugural Garmin BBB Birkirkara St Joseph Individual Time Trial Series will be held on Sunday along the Żebbuġ by-pass, starting at 8am.
The series will consist of three 20km races with the other two legs scheduled for August 3 and September 7, Birkirkara SJ said in a statement.
With a prize fund worth over €1,000, the top three male and female finishers in the overall classification will share €700 worth of BBB/Buff products, while the cyclists with the fastest race times will receive Starbene products.
The first Birkirkara St Joseph members (men and women) in the general classification will win €150 each.
The series will also include 13 age-groups and a category for para-cyclists. The male and female winners in each age-group over 17 years (excluding the top three in the overall classification), will be presented with a trophy.
Trophies will also be given to the winners of the categories between the ages of 12 and 16 years. Participants aged under 11 and para-cyclists will all receive a series memento.
Applications will be accepted by the organisers up to noon on the day before each race and the race starting order will be drawn at random.
Mdina Road in Żebbuġ, between the St Dorothy’s Convent School and the roundabout leading to Saqqajja hill, will be closed for traffic by the police on race days between 7.30 and 10.30am.
The main sponsors of the series are Garmin and BBB/Buff. Go&Fun and Starbene are also supporting the event.
