Adrian Delia has been elected as the new leader of the Nationalist Party. Simon Busuttil decided to resign after the party suffered a heavy defeat at the polls.

The PN fought the election in coalition with the Democratic Party (PD) with the only purpose of eradicating once and for all corruption that had blemished not only the ruling party but also our independent institutions.

The rule of law was being threatened and that was why partisan politics was being sacrificed and Forza Nazzjonali was formed.

The principles of good governance, the integrity of all MPs, the safeguard of our independent institutions and the rule of law were behind this political force. This is what the PN in coalition with the PD had started under Busuttil’s leadership.

Now that the PN has a new leader does it mean all that we stood for no longer holds? Does it mean that what we started will end abruptly? Hopefully, not.

Delia should continue what was started. Busuttil’s vision for the good of society as a whole should remain in sight and the new Nationalist administration should finish what was started.

During this legislature, both Nationalist MPs and those representing the PD should work hand-in-hand, keeping in mind that all those who voted for them voted for Malta – for the good of Malta and not for partisan politics.

Let there be changes. Let Delia give the party a new direction. Let there be new faces and new strategies but let those principles for which we have been fighting and defending remain untouched.

Let what has been started be finished.
