A grant by the Vodafone Malta Foundation will be used to fund the central digital information podium in the main hall of the Museum for Migration and the visitors’ centre in Valletta.

The Emigrants’ Commission said last month the first phase of the Migration Museum, situated at its premises, should be completed by the end of the year.

Vodafone will be donating funds over a period of two years to help with the setting up of the first phase of the museum.

The information podium will have eight LED screens, eight touch screen interfaces and computers to run the digital system, displaying a large number of items in an interactive way.

Visitors would be able to browse through the digitised information by using hand gestures over the various screens.

The museum is being set up on the initiative of the commission, which had been set up to assist emigrants in their preparation for a new life abroad and to retain a close relationship with their relatives in Malta.
