Conservation work on the nine monuments at Floriana’s Maglio Gardens has been completed.

The project, coordinated by heritage society Din l-Art Ħelwa and sponsored by Malta-based specialist trade finance institution Fimbank, aimed to restore the monuments in this historic garden for posterity. They pay tribute to Sir Luigi Preziosi, Sir Adrian Dingli, Sir Ugo Mifsud, Marquis Joseph Scicluna, Sir Hannibal Scicluna, Dr Filippo Sceberras, Marquis Vincenzo Bugeja, Aloisio Pisani and Giovanni Di Nicolo Pappaffy.

Work was entrusted to the Heritage ResCo conservation team, who worked in coordination with Floriana council and the Culture Ministry. The conservation project addressed the natural weathering process caused mainly by salt deposition and the effects of vandalism.

After a tour of the gardens, bank president Margrith Lütschg-Emmenegger reiterated the organisation’s commit-ment to contribute to safeguarding Malta’s rich historical heritage:

“The personalities which these monuments commemorate contributed greatly to Malta’s social development and the transformation of the islands into a community of which we, as a Malta-based institution, are proud to form part,” she said.

Din l-Art Ħelwa expressed its gratitude to Fimbank for its vision and ongoing support of Malta’s artistic heritage.
