Emanuel Micallef, a boxer of Maltese descent, is doing a name for himself in Australia after clinching the WBF super bantamweight belt by knocking down Tommy Clarke in a title fight a few weeks ago in Queensland.

Micallef is now in his 10th year inside the ring.

He reached the peak of his career showing total commitment in training, also taking five weeks off from his work in the build-up to the fight against Clarke.

The Basement Club fighter is not resting on his laurels though and after his title win, reports in the media ‘Down Under’ suggested Micallef will be vying for more successes in the near future.

“Words cannot describe how I feel. Now, I want to defend the title and then go for the International Boxing Federation and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation titles,” Micallef, 28, was quoted as saying.

Micallef, the first boxer from his club to win a title of this calibre, also acknowledged the useful advice of his coach Mack Utai and manager Nicky Ellis.

“It was tough to go fight Clarke in his home town and I couldn’t have done it without the support of Mack and Nicky,” he told the Logan West Leader.

In 2009, Micallef had taken the Queensland State super bantam-weight title from Clarke.

Clarke produced stiff resistance in the WBF fight but was unable to continue after going down in the eighth round and the referee awarded Micallef victory with a technical knock-out.
