Marsa  1
Fgura United  1

Fgura United picked up a valuable point in their fight to avoid the drop when they held mid-table side Marsa, yesterday.

This was Fgura’s first positive result after four successive defeats and have now reduced the gap with third from bottom Rabat to three points albeit the Magpies have a game in hand.

Fgura took just three minutes to forge ahead. Cleaven Frendo saw Marsa goalkeeper Ryan Caruana out of position and beat him with a calibrated lob from 30 metres out.

Marsa hit back strongly and they soon drew level. Gilbert Martin fed Rodney Refalo whose curling cross was met by Luis Andre De Melo Lima who headed home.

The Brazilian threatened again on 37 minutes but this time he was denied by Bartolo.

On 56 minutes Marsa came close again when Refalo was freed by substitute Sakurai but Bartolo came out well to block his effort.

Five minutes from time, De Melo Lima was put clear by Sakurai but his deflected effort finished wide.

Fgura  almost won it in stoppage time but Warren Chircop was denied by Caruana.
