There was a drop in the number of commuters, vehicles and trips between Malta and Gozo last year, according to the National Statistics Office.

Overall, the number of trips by Gozo Channel ferries dropped by 301 over 2011, while the number of commuters decreased by 32,402.

The total number of vehicles went down by 2.2 per cent, the NSO said.

Between October and December, a total of 901,260 commuters travelled bet-ween Malta and Gozo, up by 1.6 per cent when compared to the corresponding quarter last year.

The trend in August remained unchanged when compared to previous years, with the highest numbers of trips, vehicles and commuters being registered for the year.
