The number of commuters between Malta and Gozo dropped slightly in the third quarter, compared to the same period last year, but the number of vehicles went up.

The decline in the number of commuters was of 0.5 per cent, to 1,344,153, while the number of vehicles carried by scheduled vessels went up by 1.5 per cent to 349,607, according to the latest release of national statistics.

The number of trips in the period under review also went down. It stood at 5,678 when compared to 5,814 in the corresponding period of 2010. The majority of trips, 34.6 per cent, took place in August.
