Tomorrow: 1st Viennese School Quartets

The quartet, formed by front desk members of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will perform for the first time in Gozo in concert presenting the essence of Vienna: Haydn’s Emperor Quartet - which inspired the German national anthem, Mozart’s Dissonance Quartet and Beethoven’s Harp Quartet.
Wednesday: Four Hands On A Piano
Giuseppe Fricelli, Daria Aleshina, piano duo (Italy/Russia)

Seasoned pianists Fricelli and Aleshina return to the Gaulitana with a varied recital including works by Weber, Ravel and Satie. The final work will be Shostakovich’s ever-popular Suite No.1 for orchestra jazz, in a four-hand piano transcription.

A recurring event in Gaulitana is the collaboration with Italian publishing house Verso l’Arte. Each year, a concert is dedicated to works by Italian contemporary composer Federico Gozzellino, which is then published on a CD. For this edition, a song cycle will be performed penned to words by poet Alda Merini.
Friday: Sax Overtones

Sammartano last year delighted audiences with his virtuosity and finesse. He returns again, this time with works by Milhaud, Attard and Ibert before a Piazzolla extravaganza featuring Adios Nonino, Oblivion and Libertango.
Saturday: Suite Romantica
Duo Comuzzi-Curti Giardina, viola/piano (Italy)

The duo features violist Demetrio Comuzzi, principal viola at Teatro San Carlo, Naples and La Fenice, Venice and member of the New Italian Quartet. Together with pianist Curti Giardina, he will perform a Romantic programme including pieces by Schumann, Brahms, Bridge, Glinka and Vieuxtemps. A suite of emotions all presented in one evening.
Sunday: Dancing Trios
Goldberg Trio, violin/viola/piano (Malta)

The final concert of the third week will be by the Goldberg Trio, featuring Michael Laus, Marcelline Agius and Nadia Debono. Hailed as some of Malta’s elite musicians, their programme will have a strong dancing flavour with De Falla’s Danse Espagnole, Piazzolla’s Grand Tango and Brahms’s Hungarian Dances (the latter two arranged for trio by Laus).
