An alcohol company is developing a music festival tracking device to help revellers find their friends in the all-too-common event of having no mobile phone signal.

The Festival Friend Finder is being tested at UK events this summer.

The gadget consists of a main tracking unit that can be wirelessly paired with up to four tags worn by friends, and uses radio frequency technology and visual and audible signals to point the user in the direction of another paired tag.

It also features an emergency alert button that signals to friends that help is needed.

As it does not work off a mobile phone, it escapes the pitfalls of poor reception and does not need charging.

The small tags can be securely attached to festival lanyards and wristbands, a tent or left at a meeting point to guide festival-goers back to their friends or the comfort of their camp bed.
