A father and son were yesterday jailed after coming to blows with another man at the end of a court sitting in full view of a magistrate.

The fist fight, which left the victim with a badly injured nose, took place at about 10 a.m. in front of Magistrate Antonio Mizzi as the victim was leaving the court room.

A witness said the court had fined the victim over a dispute with another family and ordered that he sign a guarantee not to approach the family.

As he moved away from the deputy registrar, in front of the Magistrate’s bench, he was assaulted by two men from the other family. He was punched several times around the head and was seen bleeding profusely.

Cleaners were later brought in to mop up and get rid of the blood on the floor.

Magistrate Mizzi jailed the son for 30 days and his father for five days for contempt of court. Their names were not released.
