Newly-elected Labour MP Joe Farrugia (Il-Farrell) yesterday took his oath of allegiance as the new member of Parliament after winning the casual election last week.

He takes the seat vacated by Karmenu Vella, who has taken up his post in Brussels as a European Commissioner.

Mr Farrugia returns to Parliament after 16 years, having served for the 22 months of the 1996-1998 Labour government.
