Thomas Farrugia will run in the 200m heats at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships today.

Farrugia is the only Maltese athlete competing in these championships which are being held in Lille, France.

Although Farrugia’s versatility has seen him earn a spate of encouraging results in different events on the domestic scene, the youngster will only take part in the 200m in the World Youth Championships.

“Making it through the first round will be difficult but Farrugia will be seeking to improve his personal best of 23.20 set in the COJI Games in Sicily last May,” the Malta Amateur Athletics Association (MAAA) said in a short statement.

MAAA official Anthony Fava is accompanying Farrugia in Lille.
