A farmer with a grudge against major car importer Maurice Mizzi was yesterday fined €200 after he threatened him over the phone on Monday.

Pacifiko Vella, 61, from Bidnija, admitted making the threats in an incident that revolved around a planning application for a piece of land to which Mr Mizzi is a registered objector.

In a light-hearted moment, Magistrate Ian Faruriga noted Mr Vella had a previous conviction in 1972 when he was fined Lm1 for carrying more people than legally allowed in the cabin of his truck.

Lawyer Michael Sciriha, appearing for Mr Mizzi, said his client wanted to drop the case and had no interest in pursuing any charges against Mr Vella. Lawyer Frank Testa appeared for Mr Vella.
