I am a lifelong stammerer and loved the article The Stammering King And Us by Joseph Vella Bonnici. His statement “Monarchs are human, too” gave light to the fact that people from all walks of life stammer.
One per cent of the worldwide adult population and about four per cent of the child population deal with stammering each day. Stammering does not discriminate!
Why stop at King George VI? So many other famous people from all walks of life stammer or have stammered in the past. The website of The Stuttering Foundation (www.stammeringhelp.org) has an extensive list of “Famous People Who Stutter” with names such as Prince Albert of Monaco, Emily Blunt, Bruce Willis, Marilyn Monroe, James Earl Jones, Tiger Woods, Rowan Atkinson and so many more.
The people whose names feature on the list have all distinguished themselves in the fields of entertainment, pro sports, science, literature, business and government.
The Stuttering Foundation is a non-profit organisation with a global outreach to over 130 nations each year and its website provides countless free resources for stammerers of all ages.
