Nearly three years ago the majority of Maltese voted for a new government. The result obtained by the Labour Party after nearly 25 years in Opposition was a clear cry by the electorate that there was need for change.
Three years later, something has gone wrong. We were promised an open, clean administration yet the Café Premier, Gaffarena and other recent episodes suggest otherwise. A number of Mepa permits have been controversial, promises made to Enemalta employees were not kept and the power plant contract has not been published. The public transport contract was only published after some time.
Then we had a number of controversial appointments – three police commissioners in three years and, more recently, the government had to withdraw its nominee for the post of magistrate because of a problem with eligibility. Another magisterial nomination was also contentious, but the appointment is still going ahead.
This Labour government is a flop. Even the well-performing economy – thanks to the PN that made Malta an EU State – is not helping the weak, and the number of citizens living in poverty has increased.
I invite readers to stand up when the time comes to pay back those who insult our intelligence with their false promises.
