I agree with most of Jos Edmond Zarb’s comments in his letter ‘UK political mess’ (November 25).

I read some of the comments made by EU leaders, which include things like the EU is not ready for a hard Brexit, others threatening to leave Europe themselves, some want Michel Barnier sacked for threatening and talking of punishing Britain but mostly that without UK trade most EU countries will suffer grave economic shocks, especially those that rely heavily on tourism and countries that export to the UK.

Security and defence are not being mentioned but they are big issues for Europe without a UK deal. EU leaders want negotiations to succeed and a deal struck soonest.

As for the chaos and friction within the Tory government, itis not as bad as the media, and the ineffective and incoherent Labour opposition, make it out to be. Remember, good news does not sell newspapers and people will switch to sci-fi TV channels if that is all that happened.

In addition, Remoaners will exacerbate even the slightest hiccup (remember Theresa May’s coughing fit during her speech) in their vain attempts to undermine the government’s negotiations and overturn Brexit. That’s not going to happen.

Brexit is just the beginning. The present unelected Eurofiles who dictate to the elected governments in the EU are on borrowed time. They are dragging negotiations because they are no longer faceless and now enjoy publicity. Their cushy jobs and gravy train rides are threatened, so they are worried.

May God let me live long enough to, once again, as I did in 1964, wave the Maltese colours at Malta’s regained independence.
