It has now been a good couple of months since the introduction of the new bus service. Most level-headed people would agree that initially the service was one big farce.

As time progressed, by hook or by crook it started to improve. Unfortunately, the biggest let-down was the change of the routes on the first day. This caused so much heartache and sleepless nights to the majority of bus-travelling people on the Maltese islands and the debate goes on whether it was Transport Malta or Arriva’s fault. I found Minister Austin Gatt’s recent comments as to not losing any sleep rather amusing in a perverse sort of way. Is he unshakable or does he just not care about people who voted him into government? Those calling for his resignation are somewhat naïve; surely by now they must realise that in Malta no one is taken to task when things do not quite work out as promised.

I know I stand to be corrected on purpose. I have omitted mentioning the prosecution (persecution) of the Playmobil lady and the 16-year-old who did not issue a VAT receipt; shock waves were sent through the whole country as an example was made of these two individuals.

No doubt, we can now all be assured that no one would change Playmobil sets and that all professional people like lawyers, dentists, doctors and notaries and so on would start giving receipts!
