Officials searching a Moscow-bound Russian Aeroflot passenger jet, which made an emergency landing in Iceland after receiving a bomb threat, found no explosives on board, they said yesterday.

The flight carrying at least 253 people had already left New York when an anonymous caller told US law enforcement authorities five explosive-packed suitcases had been placed on board, the Russian news service Interfax quoted an air traffic control source in Moscow as saying.

The Airbus A-330 jet landed in Keflavik International Airport near Iceland’s capital Reykjavik after requesting an emergency landing early yesterday, the airport said a statement.

The entire airport was evacuated as a safety precaution, but searches on the plane “has not revealed any suspicious materials onboard”, the Icelandic National Crisis Coordination Centre said.
