Drydocks World and Maritime World, provider of services to the international marine and maritime industry, has announced that the Mare Forum Shipping Summit will be held in 2014 in Dubai.

The event, which will be attended by leaders of both the regional and international industry, will be the first time that this internationally recognised forum will be held in Dubai. It will focus on the growing importance and emerging stature of Dubai within industry circles.

The Mare Forum is considered by many to be the most global and influential forum for the maritime and marine industry. Currently events are held in the US, Europe, South East Asia and South America only – however, by holding the 2014 edition in Dubai, Mare Forum will be making its first ever foray into the Middle East and North Africa, the Indian sub-continent and Africa.

This recognises the global role played by UAE in general and Dubai in particular in leading important initiatives in the maritime, offshore, oil, gas and energy sectors, its accepted position in international maritime and shipping circles and the influence it wields on global business and trade.

Dubai, which is at the crossroads of international maritime and shipping routes, provides the ideal environment and excellent connectivity to countries all over the world. In fact, the summit will also explore the future potential of the maritime and marine sectors in Dubai, such as those for Dubai Maritime City.

“Mare Forum in Dubai will help global leaders connect with the strong and emerging maritime sector in the UAE and will introduce key decision-makers in the region to the international players,” said Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World while announcing the partnership.

“The summit will provide sufficient opportunity to encourage a free flow of ideas while still being structured to focus on issues of impending significance to the regional and global industry. The event which will be held in Dubai will bring together business and industry leaders in the UAE and the region and their global counterparts creating enhanced opportunities for the future for all involved,” he added.

In a press release issued by Mare Forum, Jannis Kostoulas, the founder and president of Mare Forum, said that, “The focus of the first Mare Forum Dubai Summit will be on exploring the future of shipping in Dubai, Middle East and Africa, considering the global political, economical, financial and the other sectors and addressing the impact of these conditions on the global maritime industry, the international shipping industry and the future of the Dubai Maritime Cluster.”

Many international companies and organisations have already expressed and confirmed their willingness and interest to cooperate, support and attend the summit.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of the executive office, has granted his official patronage to the Mare Forum, Dubai. The royal patronage accorded to this event accentuates the importance of the growth of the marine and maritime industries in Dubai and its growing recognition as a global maritime centre.

The first Mare Forum Dubai Summit 2014 in Dubai will be held on February 25, 2014.
