Who is responsible for opening the exit gate from the Hookham Frere school in Pietà? For weeks now, the lower end has been inaccessible as the person responsible for opening the gate apparently decided to call it quits (see photo).
The place becomes a traffic bottleneck with minibuses and parents’ private cars that enter from St Luke’s Hospital side but cannot exit the place. To do so, one has to try to turn the vehicle round and exit from the entrance. Now, such a manoeuvre is almost impossible in a place jam-packed with staff and parents’ cars together with the school’s minibuses, some entering while others exiting from the same access road about four metres wide. It is resulting in great confusion and inviting some horrible accident involving young schoolchildren.
This state of affairs is simply intolerable and creating a dangerous situation. Does any authority exist to ensure that what was normal daily practice is resumed? Can any government employee simply decide that his job and responsibility ends at his discretion and to hell with everybody else?
It is hoped that whoever was responsible, be it an employee, a supervisor, a foreman, the police or the ministry in charge, look into this intolerable state of affairs and get things done.
