Brush Strokes is a collection of works by John Vic Borg currently on display in Attard.
Borg has recently exhibited Step by Step, a project study of steps in various localities in Malta. The itinerant exhibition was shown at the Valletta Waterfront, the Cavalieri Art Hotel in St Julian’s, the La Valette VIP Club Lounge in Luqa and the Skyparks Business Centre, also in Luqa.
Some works from this exhibition form part of Brush Strokes but are really in contrast to his latest creations. In Step by Step, the works were almost monochrome, in a predominant green, with a predilection for chiaroscuro and a few highlights and nuances of shade and shadow.
Borg showed that he was primarily interested in the structure and texture of rock, hewn and sculptured stone and a realistic depiction of steps with some implied symbolism. Vegetation is given priority showing acute observation of plants, flowers, shrubs and trees.
In Brush Strokes, Borg has changed palette, choosing warm colours and a challenging subject: the human form saturated in light. Most of his works depict girls with their pets. In reality, they are portraits that seem to recall the British school of painting.
■ Brush Strokes is on display at the Corinthia Palace Hotel and Spa in Attard until April 30.
