The problem of excessive traffic and noise pollution on our road network warrants immediate, very urgent attention and action by the authorities.

Only two cars per household should be allowed unless public urgency or needs dictate otherwise, but most certainly never in excess of three cars for a household should be permitted.

To encourage the greater use of motor-cycles and bicycles, licence fees of the former should be substantially reduced while the price of bicycles should be heavily subsidised from public funds and bicycle lanes provided wherever possible.

Every new building should be provided with a two-car garage and accompanying drive-in wherever possible. Those with such facilities should not be allowed to park a vehicle anywhere on their street.

Double parking or stopping should not be allowed with the exception only in the case of handicapped persons alighting or entering a vehicle.

Maximum and minimum speed limits should be strictly enforced everywhere as should the obligation by all drivers to signal a turn, intention of parking or stopping and any change of lane or direction.

It should be unlawful for drivers of cars and motor cycles to tamper with the silencer to create more noise and show off their stupidity.

Any kind of heavy or commercial vehicle should not be allowed on the roads during peak hours to and from work, say between 7am and 9am and between 5pm and 7pm.

It is also time for an efficient underground system which would solve many traffic problems. It is most likely that the EU, if requested, will help generously with the provision of funds and probably also with the know-how and expertise to design and operate the system.
