In the letter entitled Children’s Safety At Marsaxlokk (July 7), Carol Fenech asked me to produce evidence of her complaint to the monitoring board of the Local Government Department.

Apparently, the monitoring board did not find any wrongdoing...- Edric Micallef, mayor, Marsaxlokk

In order to refresh her memory, Ms Fenech sent her complaint to the monitoring board by an e-mail to Monitoring at DLG and copied to Catherine Spiteri at the Ministry of Education and Employment on May 15 at 7.37 p.m. The role of the monitoring board is to oversee the operations of the local councils.

Eventually, I was asked by Natalino Callus of the Department of Local Government to give an explanation on this complaint, which I duly did on May 16.

Apparently, the monitoring board did not find any wrongdoing by the Marsaxlokk local council on this matter because no further requests were received from this board.

I am giving The Times a copy of all this correspondence as proof.
