Malta is to host the European Maritime Day conference at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta on May 21 and 22.

Maritime Day is celebrated to highlight the crucial role oceans and seas play in the everyday life of all citizens.

Tourism Minister Mario de Marco, announcing the event, highlighted the importance of integrated marine politics for Malta and said its tourism industry was directly related to the sea. “Ours is not a sea that divides but a sea which unites,” he said.

Blue Growth – the use of sustainable strategy for the management of the marine and coastal resources – will be the theme of this year’s conference.
