I was knocked down by a car on the pedestrian crossing in St Paul’s Bay.

I would like to thank my neighbours, who were crossing at the time, and the local shopkeepers, who cared for me while injured and have been solicitous since.

My special thanks to Mark for his first aid and George for his control of traffic. I can’t thank the special people of St Paul’s Bay enough.

I would also thank all the staff at Mater Dei Hospital for the excellent care.

It is a sad reflection on driving on this island that relatives in Canada and the US have been warned not to hire a car, as it is too dangerous here.

Traffic police should be on the roads 24/7. Violations should be rigorously pursued, with a zero tolerance policy, to clean up what has been the norm.

We have become the traffic ‘black spot’ of Europe. How sad!
