A mother-daughter team, Dagmar Vosse and Kristin Wentingmann, specialising in equine health thera-pies, are currently in Malta with the aim of introducing alternative therapies and treatments to local owners.

The two certified Heilpraktiker, also known as alternative therapy specialists, are based in Germany and have been offering a wide range of equine health therapy services for the last ten years.

Many of the ailments diagnosed by the team can be treated very successfully by using the right alternative therapy, ensuring that the horses can enjoy a long healthy life and continue to perform at the peak of their abilities.

Treatments are suitable for all types of horses, be they racers, polo horses or show jumpers.

“The approach taken in identifying and treating equine health ailments is a holistic one, paying special attention to the effects that diets and work routines have on the horse’s health,” Vosse explains.

“In my experience, a lot of health problems are also caused by incorrect feeding practices, which places a great deal of strain on the horse’s internal organs and which, unsurprisingly, has a knock-on effect on the animal’s well-being.”

While horses suffering from health issues is always a regrettable situation, the good news is that many of these ailments can be dealt with and even avoided once diagnosed and treated correctly.

“Our approach to identifying any health issues and treating them is based on scientific research, even though many people believe that we practise what is called ‘alternative therapy’,” Vosse added.

“Once we identify any prevailing health issues, we set about treating them, also providing advice to owners on how to manage any ailments efficiently in the long run.”

The use of alternative therapies as practised by the team is becoming increasingly popular on mainland Europe, no doubt thanks to the positive results that have been achieved.

In fact, Dagmar and Kristin’s equine clients include a number of high-performance, high-profile horses, the likes of Revenue, which, after receiving treatment from the team, went on to win over €750,000 in prize money.

The duo are here on the initiative of local dressage instructor Kerstin Himmelmann.
