The Environmental Health Directorate is moving into new premises in Birkirkara inaugurated by Health Minister Joe Cassar.

The directorate, which was spread over six regions, will now be operating mainly from Psaila Street.

Director John Attard Kingswell said the move meant the centralisation and better use of resources and flexibility.

He said there would be about 100 workers spread over the two storeys in the new premises. The move should be completed by the end of the month.

Dr Cassar noted that the project was long due but he did everything that was necessary to see it being implemented.

During the inauguration he listed some of the directorate’s work carried out last year, including the inspection of more than 8,000 food entities and the study of 40,000 food or medicinal products.
